Some great memories of racing as a cohesive team with committed and passionate friends and athletes :-) ... See MoreSee Less
What does it take to reach the podium? Think of your worst ever sensation or feeling in a race and then try to replicate it in training occasionally.
A structured, progressive, intelligent, varied and consistent program is only part of the recipe to success. You also need the personal drive, ambition, motivation, morale and determination to stick to the program and hurt when it matters. Resting can sometimes be tougher than riding, so it takes courage and trust to believe in your coach.
Progression can be slow, but good coaches aim to do it this way so fitness and condition gains are enduring. Boom and bust usually leaves you over trained or injured or with some form of viral issue to contend with. Don't go there please!
Train smart, ride safe and have fun :-)

A team from Essex have broken the British and Commonwealth cycle speed record whilst raising money for the BHF!
Dave Le Grys and Neil Campbell from Colchester successfully broke the record after reaching the incredible speed of 114.19mph, smashing TV’s Guy Martin’s previous record of 112.94mph.
The daring duo and their team spent just £1,000 fixing up an old tandem bicycle with household items, including a walking stick and an ex-MOD parachute before taking the record at Elvington runway in Yorkshire earlier this week.
Dave and Neil embarked upon the challenge to help raise money for our life saving research after experiencing first-hand the devastating impact of heart disease. Dave recently underwent open heart surgery to repair his mitral heart valve and Neil sadly lost his mother in 2012 due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition.
Speaking about their success, Neil said: “We’ve all worked so hard to ensure we have a decent crack at beating the record and we’ve finally done it! Having lost my mum to heart disease, raising money and supporting the BHF is incredibly important to me.”
A big well done to everyone involved!
Shake ups are good for organisations if they are to continue operating transparently and equitably!
Looks like one is on the cards for British Cycling, however if they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear, right?
If anyone believes that coaching by fear or intimidation or denigration or ridicule or sexism or abusive means is the right thing to do, then you belong back in the 60s, 70s and 80s where it was prevalent.
Jess's treatment appears to be unfair and unjustified, considering that athletes live or die by the data they produce. Surely it would have been blatantly obvious long before the World Champs that Jess's performance was in decline, so why was she selected to ride for GB then?
Why was Jess not given adequate warnings leading up to the WC of a performance decline, and a concern from the performance director that she was not considered a world class rider?
There surely has to be a written protocol for dismissal of an athlete from the programme? Was that followed to the letter? I doubt it!
Let us see the data and facts British Cycling. Let us hear your case for dismissal. Give us, as paying members, complete transparency of the issue and the individuals involved in making the decisions, including ALL email and other communications between those who assisted in coming to Jess's ejection from the programme. ...
