No template based ‘Copy and Paste’ jobs.
I coach using power as the training metric. It’s the most direct, accurate and reliable data source, and remains free from external variables and influences, unlike heart rate, average speed or your rate of perceived exertion (RPE).
50kms could take you one hour or 3, depending on many factors! Your heart rate could be 165 or 175, influenced by levels of stress, caffeine intake, level of fatigue, temperature, humidity, hydration level, air pressure, altitude, are you in a group and drafting, etc.
One hour at 250 watts is one hour at 250 watts, no matter what else is going on!
This could be for recovery or social purposes, or to target a specific physiological adaptation.
Why would you go and ride your bike if you didn’t know what you were going out to ride it for?
Maximum enjoyment, maximum efficiency, make for the best use of your precious time!
